Review keyboard and reading order

Use the assisted tabs as prompts for hands-on keyboard and assistive technology testing.

What you will get

You will have an observed tab sequence, a reading-order aid, and a list of interactions to test yourself.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the tab-order demo and the extension side panel on that tab.

  2. Open the Keyboard tab to inspect focusable elements and their order. Use the tab-order overlay to see the sequence on the page.

  3. Press Tab and Shift+Tab yourself. Confirm that focus follows a useful path and remains visible while you interact with controls.

  4. Open the Screen Reader tab to inspect the page's reading-order model. Use browser speech where available to hear its approximation.

  5. Record anything the aids cannot decide, then check it with a real screen reader and the intended interaction pattern.

Check your result

  • Does visible focus match the reported sequence?
  • Can every control be operated from the keyboard?
  • Does a real screen reader announce the content and roles usefully?
